P F B V i e w
for Microsoft Windows
Martin Hepperle
This is a Beta version of a font viewer.
It can display characters of Postscript Type 1 fonts which
are stored in binary eexec format (this applies to most fonts
which are available for Adobe Type Manager for Windows).
It is not foolproof yet (I didn┤t find a fool to test it)
and may crash under certain instances.
I also found that some PD fonts do not follow the rules
of the Adobe white book for creating character paths (overlapping
paths).
PFBView has been written to take a look at the large number
of Postscript fonts available at cica without having to
install them into ATM.
It can be used to print a map of all available characters
which comes in handy when you have to enter special characters
and symbols via ALT-0...
To try it out you first have to select a font by using the
menuitem [File -> Open PFB...]. Then you can take a look
at the other menu options.
Menu items:
[File]
[Open PFB...] select a Postscript font file
[Print Font] print what you see in the ┤PFB View┤ window
[Select Printer...] install a printer for ┤PFB View┤
[Options]
[Size...] specify the font height in millimeters
[Display...] you can display either:
- the ANSI (==Windows) caracterset
- all the characters as they are stored in
the font file
- a string of your choice
[Colors...] select colors for:
- character outline (each RGB component 0...255)
- character interior (each RGB component 0...255)
toggle fill interior switch
select a pen attributes:
- pen style
- pen thickness (only for solid pen)
[Info]
[About PFB View...] do you really have to know ?
You can copy single characters to the clipboard (in metafile format) by
clicking in the character bounding box.
Future: Maybe I will make PFBView into a DLL which offers functions
like the Windows Text API (CreateFont, TextOut etc...)
Status: Beta copy, almost operational
